At Gibsons Dance Academy we offer more than just dance classes. Our aim is to offer encouragement and the opportunity to develop confidence, self-esteem and fitness using dance.

In the class we will be working towards competitions in Solos, Duos and Teams. The class will work on flexibility and the gymnastic side whilst working on amazing routines. This class is aimed to push you to the next level.

We work on strength, flexibility, balance and control of the body. Each class starts with a 30min warm up, followed by working on the mats on various tricks.

Students are placed in one of two levels according to age, experience, and ability. They follow a structured sequence of training stages designed to increase their technical skills, stamina, and discipline, in accordance with their age and individual physical development.

Social Ballroom Dancing comprises dances like the Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Latin American, which include ballroom versions of the Rumba, Cha Cha Cha and Jive all danced socially, making it one of the country's most popular styles of dance. Whether you are an absolute beginner or an experienced dancer, our teaching sessions will provide a rich backdrop to all of the varied dance forms. Our courses are full of enjoyment and are ideal for those attending birthdays, weddings, cruises, or our Studio Socials. Be inspired to get up on the dance floor and show everyone else what you can do.

Our Bella The Bear class introduces young children to dance, by developing rhythm and coordination. The class is themed, based around ‘Bella The Bear’ with dance and action songs to compliment them. Children are encouraged to bring their favourite bear or doll along to the class.

Ages 2-3

The Mini Groovers class is a great general dance class for 4–6 year olds. We mix fun party dances with the development of basic dance skills in Street Dance, Ballroom, Latin American, Freestyle Disco and Rock ‘n Roll.  Mini Groovers can take examinations with the International Dance Teachers’ Association and gain a Rosette Award.  Children love to collect the range of colours and add them to their Bannerette.

Ages 4-6

A fun, but challenging dance class for those who want to learn a mixture of dance styles in one session. Each class commences with a dance warm-up and then Junior Dancers develop their skills in Street Dance, Freestyle Disco, and Rock ‘n Roll. Classes are divided by age groups and grades.

It doesn't matter with this class if you are solo or a couple, male or female you can still learn all the popular Latin American dances, cha cha, rumba, samba, jive, mambo and salsa without a partner. A great way to keep fit and learn the basic Latin dances.

Contemporary dance classes at GDA are a combined curriculum of modern and lyrical, often utilizing improvisation, floor-work, partnering and performing in bare feet. Contemporary as a dance style in itself is defined, in part, as a fusion of ballet and jazz, demanding technical skill, musicality and an expression of emotion.

Our Tap and Jazz Class is a beginner’s class where students will learn the basic movements to making music with their feet. This class is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. Students can work at their own pace but if anyone starts finding this class too easy then they can be move up to a more advanced class.

Burlesque Dance classes are a unique 60min dance workout class inspired by the sassiest of showgirls and burlesque dance divas. Burlesque dance classes cleverly combine fun and glamourous dance moves with the art of being feminine to ensure you get an all-over work out as well as a gorgeous body!!

Learn how to strut on, off, around and over the chair with exciting and sassy moves all carefully choreographed to tone your arms, abs, legs and waist and leave you feeling like a foxy feline. Second half of the class we learn stunning routines incorporating basic striptease, props and sassy feminine fun to give you a glamorous glow, an empowering workout experience and the sexy confidence of a true diva!

Come and enjoy a combination of Cheerleading and Street Dance. Learn some cheers, chants, jumps, stunts and fun routines.

As of 1st January 2018, all classes will be paid for on a monthly basis, up front.  The reason for the change in payment collection is due to the costs of staffing and to hire staff to run the sessions, and then have a very low turnout for that class is no longer a viable option for Gibson’s Dance Academy.

The monthly fees are worked out pro-rata for 50 weeks (ie annually, less the 2 weeks we close over the Christmas period).  All classes are £4.  If you do one class you pay the amount shown below every month.  If you attend more than one class, your additional class(es) is charged at half price, ie £2.  So for those taking 2 classes, the fee will be £25, made up of the figure from your 1st class and then an additional £8.30 for your 2nd class.  Those taking 3 classes or more please see the table below.
